Item Description
This issue’s cover is a perfect example of an understated and underplayed cover that still makes it clear that the book was in support of the War. Some of the covers released during War time were really direct and very patriotic. This cover goes the other way. Cover artist Jerry Robinson made the point in an extremely subtle manner. Having Batman and Robin in parachutes against a solid black background allowed the reader to create a scenario in their head. The addition of a few spotlights moved that scenario in the direction of a war theme. It gave the reader the idea that they may be dropping behind enemy lines. Nothing needed to be directly said; after all, why else would anyone be jumping from a plane in 1942? Take a second to notice the circle of light that Robin is landing in. Like the others around it, it is red, white, and blue. That is a very unusual color choice for a landing pad. The book contains an appearance by the Joker. The pages are off-white to white. The centerfold is missing a 1” piece of a corner. The book is CGC-certified VF- 7.5. It is also recognized as part of the Toledo pedigree
