Auction #182 - Part II
Item numbers 1500-3431 in auction 182
Item Description
This is one of the most memorable Penguin covers in the long run of the
title. Cover artists Jim Mooney and Ray Burnley showed Oswald Cobblepot dressed
to the nines as a Swashbuckler. He is using one of his trademark umbrellas to
fend off the Caped Crusader who appears to be trying to board the
Penguin’s very own Pirate Ship. Over in the right hand corner, Robin can
be seen swinging in from outside the panel to take out one of the
Penguin’s henchmen. It is a wonderful image that is simultaneously
entertaining and thrilling. By placing 90% of the action below the horizon line,
the cover artist created a feeling that the action is really taking place out on
the wide open sea. This issue features the writing of Bill Finger. The pages are
off-white to white. The book is CGC-certified VF 8.0. According to the CGC
census, this copy is tied as the third highest graded copy.
