Item Description
In the mythology that surrounds Batman; few issues are rated higher than this one. The highlight of this book is the first detailed origin of the Batman. Prior to this, Batman’s origin had been told in a quick two pages or through a flashback. This time around, it is revealed that Batman spent a lot of effort and time tracking down his parent’s killer and eventually, he reveals his secret identity to him. The cover really drives home the overall importance of the story through the use of familiar iconic items that have become associated with Batman. This is the first cover of Batman to feature the Bat-signal (it had been featured in Detective Comics). The other two cover items, the Batmobile and the Batplane, have been indelibly stamped in the public consciousness as an integral part of the Batman Mythos. The cover artist, Bob Kane, perfectly uses color to balance the relative inaction of the cover. The only places that the color red appears are inside the Batman insignia, in the announcement of the story, and on young Bruce Wayne’s sweater. This very subtly implies that they are all one and the same. The issue also features an appearance by Catwoman. The pages are cream to off-white. The book is CGC-certified FN/VF 7.0. This is one of the highest graded, un-restored copies in existence.
