Item Description
No title exemplifies the best of the Silver Age better than DC’s Showcase. From the Flash to Green Lantern to The Metal Men, DC used the title to test the waters on an amazing number of new characters and concepts. This is Lois Lane’s second appearance in the book. She was the first character to appear in Showcase and then move into her own book. During the time this issue came out, the Superman television show was flying high on America’s TV sets. This helps explain why Lois was given her own title so quickly. The editors at DC knew they had a winner. However, the TV show cannot take all the credit for Lois’ success. Those who were buying the comics had to also like the art and stories, or else they weren’t coming back. This issue features a cover by the incredible Wayne Boring, who is widely acknowledged as one of the best Superman artists ever. His work helped shape the image of Superman in many a reader’s eye. He is supported on this cover by Stan Kaye. The stories inside are written by Otto Binder (of Captain Marvel fame) and Jerry Coleman. The pages are white. The book is CGC-certified VF/NM 9.0 by CGC. According to the CGC Census, only one other copy of this book has been graded this high. This book is also acknowledged to be part of the Bethlehem pedigree.
