Item Description
18.75x24" poster on high quality art paper distributed by Sendak's publisher Harper & Rowe. From an annual series, this being the tenth which also coincided with the 25th anniversary of Sendak's book "Where The Wild Things Are" (1963). This inspired Sendak to depict New York's antiquarian bookstores including Biblio & Tannen, Dauber & Pine and Schultes Bookshop, Argosy & Samuel Weiser while at the scene's center a huge Wild Thing gnaws at the "10th Anniversary" street banner while he reads Grimm's fairytales and William Blake. Poster was issued for single day Sept. 18, 1968 event to benefit Children's Services, New York Public Library. Sendak has signed his name at bottom right below the image in black ink. Mint.
