Item Description
4x10.5x8.25" tall tin litho toy w/built-in key is marked "Made In Germany." 1920s © Oscar Hitt. This classic character windup is 100% complete and original. Highly detailed and includes separate flat tin figures of Henry and his wife, both mounted on springs. On roof is clothes line and attached to this is original string representing a homemade antenna that attaches to Henry's wife's headphones. On the back is removable piece consisting of stove w/stove pipe, wash tub and board. The front of the car is designed like their dog's house and has separate tin dog head mounted so it bobs about. Front of car is complete w/crank and spring-mounted hood ornament. Toy works and travels around, every once in awhile rearing up and spinning around before lowering and continuing on. Roof has moderate darkening to the paint including .75" dia. dark spot at back right. Toy has just some small scattered traces of paint wear, some scratches on back where the separate stove piece attaches so not visible when this is place. Still has a glossy appearance. VF. Provenance of Philip Samuels collection.
