Item Description
4x5x11" tall box contains 11" tall tin litho toy that has built-in key. © 1930 Correll & Gosden. All four side panels of the box feature same image of Amos raising finger in the air and saying "Taxi?" Has all three top flaps although these are loose. Bottom flaps remain intact. Visible on top interior surface of box is a moisture stain although this does not show through on the outside. Box panels have just st. wear, a few lt. crease lines. Aside from the loose flaps, box displays tight, clean and VF. Marx produced two versions of this toy, one w/moving eyes and one without and this is the latter. Essentially the same figure although on this version, pants are solid brown whereas the moving eye version has more detailed pants w/simulated patch. Also this face is more black in color. Body is nicely detailed w/images of a bank book, envelopes and pencil in his vest pockets and he wears a badge reading "F.A.T.C. Amos Driver." Toy works and rocks back and forth as it moves about and separate arms swing. Scattered tiny paint nicks, mostly concentrated to vest where arms rub against it and on pants. Appearance remains totally bright and very glossy. VF+. Rarely found boxed. Provenance of Philip Samuels collection.
