Item Description
This item is unlisted in Hake although it did appear in Auction #184 where it sold in excess of $2,500. The piece is a large 2-1/8x2.75" tall and is a full .25" deep made as a deeply embossed tin shell with 5 tiny tabs on the reverse that fold over a flat silvered sheet of tin that has a small notched cut-out holding a 1" vertical stickpin. The front is beautifully lithographed in color and the embossed areas include outlines of his hair, raised facial details around the eyes and glasses, raised nose, mustache and chin. Even the ear areas have a little embossing to add to the portrait realism. There are about a dozen tiny paint flakes widely scattered and no more than 1/16". Overall paint is about 97% complete. We know of one other example in the hobby. From the Hake collection, comes with Hake's COA.
