Item Description
First is 3" reading "Flash Gordon/Ming The Merciless." Art includes "Alex Raymond" facsimile signature at left. Top curl reads "Flash Gordon Series/Number One" while bottom curl reads "©1974 By King Features." Next comes a larger 3-3/8" button titled "Tarzan" with small text "©1975 By Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc." Reverse metal back says "Made In U.S.A." with small symbol below of short arrow pointing vertically with a circle around the shaft. Top has pair of silvered metal tabs holding brass bar pin with zig-zag base. We aren't sure of the origin of these 2 buttons. For the following 2 buttons, our Tarzan expert Robert R. Barrett provided the information that these are part of a set produced in 1973 by John Rose with the permission of Danton Burroughs. The button here is a 3" titled "Tarzan" with facsimile signature of "H. Foster." This button was done with white bkg. or like this version, a yellow bkg. These designs are unnumbered, but following that, subsequent buttons featuring Tarzan art by various artists were numbered 3 through 6. Also included and produced by this same man is a 3" unnumbered button with "Tarzan" art by "Frank Frazetta." While this button is not numbered, the creator considers it part of the set of six. While scarce, we've seen examples before of 3 of these but the 3-3/8" Tarzan we believe is the first we've seen. All are Exc. and display Mint.
