Item Description
8.5x11" program with 8 single-sided pages. For demonstration at the Fels Planetarium of the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA. Apr., 1939. Cover is marked "Courtesy Lt. Dick Calkins And The Philadelphia Record" and features detailed art of "Buck Rogers Rocketship Control Cabin" with various futuristic gauges and dials such as "Cosmic Relativator Control, Starboard Fin Balancing Control Lever, Magnetic Spacial Locator, Static Control Tube, Outer Space Compass, Television Viewplate." Seizing on the success of Buck Rogers and other space-themed characters, the Fels Planetarium created this demonstration with intro text reading "The Fels Planetarium Presents A Stirring 'Rocketship' Trip Through Space To The Crater Franklin, On The Moon, To Study An Eclipse Of The Sun In 2033 A.D." Typed text is of a sci-fi nature, supposedly written in the year 2033. Scattered moisture staining along bottom margin to cover pages. Cover has dust soiling and additional moisture staining along right-hand side margin. Fine. First we've seen.
