Auction #196 - Part I
Item numbers 1 though 975 in auction 196
Item Description
15/16" (24mm) gorgeous ferrotype with design highlighted by the large and bold text name "Abraham Lincoln" appearing on the ferrotype surface to the left and right of his image. Brass rim reads "Union Of The States 1860." Tiny rim hole as made. Reverse depicts "Hannibal Hamlin" with name above on the ferrotype and with the rim slogan on the brass "The Constitution And The Laws 1860." Both ferrotype images are close to flawless. The Lincoln a bit darker than the Hamlin, but still with distinct details. On the Hamlin side, ferro surface has just a couple dot rubs and 1/16" shallow hairline left of portrait but all of the most trivial nature and not showing unless magnified. Nice, bright luster remains on the brass rim. A wonderful design of which DeWitt AL1860-102, 103 and 104 are varieties. Rare and especially so with such N. Mint ferrotype surfaces.
