Item Description
Lot of 4 matted arboards ranging in size from 14.25x19" and 15.5x17.5". Artboards feature India ink transparent wash art. All c. 1940s. Vic Herman was Assistant Art Director for Warner Bros. Studios 1940-1943, working on several artistic projects from 1947-1972 through his own Vic Herman Productions. Herman is also noted for creating "Elsie The Cow" for the Borden Company, "Johnny" for Philip Morris and "Reddy Kilowatt." Herman also worked as a comic book artist for Harvey Comics, creating the character "Little Dot." Art in this lot features Carnival scene showing Carnival barker trick being exposed. Another is advertising piece for Waterman's Pens which shows policeman holding back crowd listening to radio, sign reading "Nearly Everyone Is Learning: No Other Pen Writes Like A Waterman's." 4-panel advertising piece for Pep Cereal shows woman singing much to chagrin of pianist, woman cries, is given bowl of Pep Cereal ("Pep" box featured) causing singer to sing better. Last piece in lot is art for Borden's showing Elmer with son Beauregard in gym in 3-panel sequence. All but one signed by Herman, all with studio stamp on reverse. Mat shows aging at corners and wear, art remains Exc.
