Auction #197 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 991 in auction 197
Item Description
1.25" shows him in uniform with "U.S.V." on the collars. The slightly domed celluloid is in a tin frame that was likely once suspended from a ribbon badge. Concave metal back has center stamp of W&H plus a badge patent date from 1894. About 20% of the metal back at the left side is missing its silver luster and this area is a dull gray color. The celluloid front of the badge has lt. even tanning of the bkg. but no individual spotting. Issued shortly after his return from Cuba and possibly used in his 1898 New York State governor campaign. Only example we know of.
