20" long box. ©1938. Effanbee. Box lid aged/worn. VG. Box bottom handling wear/tape repair. VG. Label on box end reads "Eddie Bergen's Charlie McCarthy/An Effanbee Play product." Bergen and McCarthy appear in oval to left. Label VF. Comes with original 5x6.5" trifold brochure with text "A Lesson In Ventriloquism By Edgar Bergen" and features a few suggestions for "Dialogue For Charlie As A Boy Scout." Noticeable surface paper damage. Brochure Good. 20" doll features nicely detailed composition head with movable jaw attached to string in back, metal wire monacle with string. Scattered paint flakes on pair, barely noticeable from front. Composition hands and shoes. This Sportsmen variety doll features Charlie wearing a casual-looking, double-breasted sport jacket with mother-of-pearl buttons. Also a print bow tie and light casual pants. Also comes with fabric cap. Light dust soil to light fabric areas, o/w top condition for this rare doll. Displays Exc. From the Carl Lobel Collection.
