Item numbers 992 through 2667 in auction 197
Item Description
4.5x11x5.75" tall box. Late 1960s. Made by Masudaya/Modern Toys, Japan. Five box sides with repeat color illustration of space capsule. Sixth panel has illustrated operating instructions. Moderate creasing at one end. Still displays Fine. 10" long tin litho space capsule is marked "U.N.A. - N.A.S.A./Apollo" and includes small image of American flag. On the front under clear plastic cover is separate tin panel with raised pair of astronaut figures. On the back is a large plastic exhaust port. Capsule comes with soft plastic saucer attachment that fits onto the top of the capsule. The "floating astronaut" piece is then placed on this. This consists of a fragile styrofoam base and glued at the center of the base is a 1.5" tall, two-sided die-cut cardboard astronaut figure. Toy works and travels around with bump-and-go action as the exhaust lights. There is an air-producing mechanism which suspends the astronaut in the air as toy is moving about. Underside has an air adjuster switch and when set on its highest level, it extends the astronaut 4" into the air. Capsule shows only slightest wear with defects only noticeable upon close inspection. Comes with two styrofoam floating pieces that are free of cracks or damage. Great battery action. An Exc. example.
