Item Description
9x13" supplement to "The New Statesman" and bears publication name and date Jan. 16, 1926. Stiff paper sheet has bw caricature image of the Father of Science-Fiction H. G. Wells. Illustration is by David Low who was commissioned by English newspaper "The Daily News" to draw portraits of the 50 most distinguished people in Britain for their "Star" evening paper. Due to a disagreement w/Star's editor, Low had these caricature portraits published in "The New Statesman," as seen here. Low had experience w/Welles as he had illustrated his 1930 book "The Autocracy Of Mr. Parham." Sheet has aged evenly and is Exc. Wells has signed in lower right corner in brown ink. Signature area is Exc. Great item connecting these 2 men whose career paths crossed on more than on occasion. Comes w/Hake's COA.
