Item Description
Lot of 3. Unmarked w/exception of incised numbers underneath bases. c. 1890s. Each is a nicely detailed ceramic figure w/vibrant colors and high gloss. First is 7.5" tall Uncle Sam Brownie w/"2888-58" underneath base. Three tiny pinpoint flakes off of jacket/lapel and 1/8" chip off of shirt collar. Three tiny 1/8" chips off of back of jacket at collar and along coattail edges. These tiny chips are only noticeable upon close inspection and do not detract from overall appearance, which remains Exc. 7-3/8" tall "Defender" Sailor Brownie. Incised number "2891-17" underneath base. Has "Defender" name on sailor cap brim. Nice anchor details on collar lapels. N. Mint. Last is 6-7/8" tall Brownie which is possibly butcher or baker based on apron he is wearing. Incised "2882-44A" underneath base. All candlestick holders have holes at top of head to hold candle but this Brownie has slightly different design hole but by same maker. A few tiny craze lines on nose, tiny pinpoint flake to bottom lip. .25x.5" chip to bottom right coattail which is not that noticeable and blends somewhat. Still displays VF. Extremely high quality pieces. Rare.
