Auction #198 Part I
Item numbers 1-499 in auction 198
Item Description
18x23.75” high quality frame contains professionally triple-mounted clipped signature display of noted abolitionist John Brown. Noted as an early abolitionist and for his proposal of armed insurrection to end slavery, Brown is viewed today with controversy and an air of folk hero status. Brown’s attempts at ending slavery ended in 1859 with his unsuccessful raid at Harper’s Ferry, VA. He was executed later that year for treason against the state of Virginia. Display includes bw litho image of Brown and also “John Brown 1800-1859” brass nameplate. 1x2.75” letter clipping in faded black ink reads “Respectfully Yours John Brown.” Signature has some age spotting to paper but inscription/signature remain bold and distinct. Displays Exc. Comes with Hake’s COA.
