Item Description
1865 matching displays depicting Lincoln and Grant in three-dimensional metal shell busts of incredible detailed high relief mounted in 15.5" diameter ornately carved gold-painted wooden frames with blue velvet flocking over metal backgrounds all under convex glass. Lincoln's profile measures 7" in height; Grant's measures 7.75" tall. Both portraits have superb detailing and stunning patina finish with Lincoln tending more to silver tones and Grant more in frosty whites. Each lower edge of portrait has raised "J. Powell - F. Patened 1865" in tiny text. Frames have restored gold paint. The high relief flower accents surrounding the glass are about 50% complete on Grant with damaged areas smoothed over and blended. Flower accents on Lincoln are N. Mint. Each frame has couple minor stress hairlines of little consequence. The portraits themselves are essentially Mint and visually stunning. Frame reverses have traces of original paper labels and the words "Powell's Lincoln Medallion" can be discerned. Only the second Lincoln we've seen and the only Grant. Rare.
