Item Description
38mm (1.5") in white metal listed as DeWitt/Sullivan 1860-10. Obverse has high relief bust of Lincoln surrounded by his name and the date. DeWitt notes this bust was based on a photograph of Lincoln made by Alexander Hessler in Chicago on February 28, 1857. DeWitt surmises the piece must have been struck early in the 1860 campaign, probably right after the Republican convention in Chicago. Reverse has scene of Lincoln with a helper splitting rails. At far right is tiny log cabin while at far left is tiny White House. Captioned "Progress" above with the date "1830" below. Bright luster and near uncirculated with just some light hairlines and small tarnish traces on the reverse. Scarce and in demand because of the unusual portrait which closely resembles the rare AL1860-1.
