Item Description
Lot of 2 single panel original pen and ink/charcoal art lampooning Cuban leader Fidel Castro. Both 1960s. Both on thin art board sheets. First is 14.25x18" titled "The Little Caribbean Match Girl" by "Louisville Courier-Journal" cartoonist Hugh Haynie. Castro is depicted w/little girl curls sitting outside "Freedom For The Dominicans" Party (which has Uncle Sam in attendance) w/case of Soviet hammer and sickle bombs w/"Genuwine Exported Revolutions" text. Cartoon deals w/Castro promoting discent and revolutions to other Central and South American countries. Exc. Second is 14.25x19.25" and titled "Under New, New Management" and is by "Los Angeles Times" cartoonist Bruce Russell. Art depicts Castro standing outside laundry which has the words "Cuban" and "Russian" crossed out and replaced w/"Red Chinese." Fidel in Chinese style garment and cap smoking cigar w/Communist hammer and sickle armband. Lt. aging along bottom margin and around artists signature paste-over. Still displays VF. Both come w/matching mats w/cartoon title label at bottom and cartoonist name label at top.
