Item Description
Lot of 11 typically 13x19.75” thin artboards with India ink images by noted Archie comics artist Dan DeCarlo. This is the complete 11-page “Terror Island” story that appeared in the Apr., 1963 issue. Most Archie stories from the 1960s (and until just recently) were either 5 or 6 pages, not 11 like the one offered here. Story deals with Betty and Veronica spending a weekend alone at a secluded, lakeside cabin. They in turn get scared when their bags disappear causing them to rush out of the cabin to discover giant monstrous footprints on the beach. The pair then try to escape on their boat only to discover it too is missing. They then discover the “monster” is in fact a disguised young man who has run away from the military school upriver. Each page has Apr. 2, 1963 “Comics Magazine Code Authority” ink stamp on reverse as well as Archie Enterprises, Inc. copyright. Each page has a few minor text corrections including paste-ons and some glue residue from such. Pages also have a few areas of white correctional fluid. First page has “Betty And Veronica” paste-on title at top of page. Art for the most part remains clean and if framed, would look Exc. All pages shown online.
