Item Description
12x14.75” image area. 16x20” mat. Matted and captioned by the original collector who presented this as part of a traveling editorial cartoon exhibition. Pen and ink on artboard. Artist signed at lower right. Ritchie worked for the Boston Post. Cartoon shows Huey Long wearing crown and robe and holding stick with pennant "Huey Long's Share-The-Wealth Plan" embracing Townsend whose pennant reads "Townsend's Old-Age Pension Plan." At their feet are two 1935 Roosevelt New Deal bills that have passed undermining Townsend’s and Long’s ideas. One bill reads "Roosevelt's Old Age Security Law" and the other reads "Roosevelt's Share The Wealth Inheritance Taxes Measure." See next item and Long related button #1091. Bright, clean and Exc.
