3-5/8x5.5” purple tone French photo card shows “Battling Siki, Champion du Monde” in a boxing pose. Siki was a Sengalese light heavyweight boxer active 1912-1925. After service with France in World War I, Siki was the World Light Heavyweight Champion from Nov. 1, 1919 until Georges Carpentier won the title in 1922. Siki reclaimed the title in Paris on Sep. 24, 1922. After winning back the championship, Siki was noted for his partying ways and extreme behavior, walking his pet lion down the Champs-Elyses, firing pistols in public and drinking large amounts of champagne, dressing flashy and being fond of white women, taking 2 for wives. Siki lost the title on St. Patrick’s Day, 1925. Siki has signed on back of card in pencil and in French. Card shows lt. handling wear and corner rounding but displays Fine/VF overall.
