Item Description
9x10” image area. Matted in 16x17” frame. Team was one of the premier professional teams before WWI winning multiple championships in the east. In the 20s the team did very poorly while in Eastern Colored League. They re-built their roster in 1928 but by the mid-30s were no better than that of a minor league team and disbanded in 1942. All text is hand-done in white. Identified players are: Kenyan-2B, Marcell-3B, Douglass-1B, H.B. Harris-Coach, Brooks-Utility CF, Santop-Mgr.-C, Ryan-P, Hubbard-P missing, unidentified player-P, C. Johnson-RF, D. Johnson-SS, Green-P, Sloan-LF. Caption below reads “Brooklyn Royals Giants 1919. Bushwick Park. Dexter Park. Brooklyn. N.Y.” Trace of wear around original mounting/text.
