Item Description
This lot is from 1951 with primary focus on a game that was distributed “Free With The Compliments Of This Newspaper.” Most of the pieces, be it original art or Photostats are about 12x20”. This includes 2 early prototype versions of the gameboard all in lead and colored pencil including extensive text be it general notes, production notes or actual wording that appeared on the gameboard. There is also a sheet of artboard with the final artwork done in pen and ink along with text paste-ups. Numerous Photostats of the gameboard are included, 2 of which have hand coloring. Additionally, there are a pair of 14x21” Photostats with header at top promoting the debut of the Space Cadet newspaper strip by Ray Bailey followed by the first such strip and additional “Space Dust” non-related space-themed strips also by Bailey. To go along with these Photostats, there are 2 sheets of original artwork, one with preliminary mock-up of the top header as well as pen and ink art. Additional items include promotional material, newspaper ads, original correspondence with The Philadelphia Inquirer noting production costs, promotional department notes, etc. A truly exceptional and unique lot.
