Outstanding condition and matching designs are the hallmarks of this quartet showing the 1860 presidential candidates on the obverse with their running mates on the reverse. Each ferrotype includes candidate’s full name on the front along with the date of “1860” while the reverse depicts vice-presidential candidate’s full name also each dated “1860.” Each is 25mm (1”) and holed as made. The DeWitt/Sullivan numbers are Lincoln 1860-96. This has just most trivial tiny area of luster loss on the lower right of the Hamlin side. Superb N. Mint overall with the Lincoln side displaying Mint and featuring flawless emulsion. Douglas is 1860-34. Near flawless with just 1/8” long spot without luster on the upper right edge above the image of Johnson. The Douglas side is Mint and both ferro surfaces are essentially flawless. John Bell is 1860-29. N. Mint luster and near flawless emulsion surfaces. The Breckenridge is 1860-21A. This is a minor variety in that the reverse has two leaf designs on the rim rather than three and there is no period following the name “Breckenridge.” The luster and Breckenridge ferro are essentially Mint. The surface of the Lane ferro has microscopic texturing but showing only if viewed with a magnifier in certain light angles. To the naked eye, it is also Mint. Overall condition of all 4 pieces is truly superb. A full 1860s set of the highest quality.
