Item Description
This item measures 1-3/8x2” tall counting the wire loop on the top edge which is present but usually missing from most examples in this series. Abbott issued this series of Civil War leaders around 1862. See the following example for Abraham Lincoln. The brass frame edge has luster except for lower right corner. In this area, a 1/8” spot of emulsion and a few smaller hairlines are gone. There is also exceedingly slight bubbling of the emulsion across the bottom 3/16” of the tintype. Damage is in very limited area and vast majority of the image is undamaged. Extremely clear facial details. Complete with faded pink paper label on reverse reading “Jefferson Davis, President/Southern Confederacy.” Actually, a good bit scarcer than the matching Lincoln which follows.
