Item Description
Set of eight 5.5” tall glasses in original (but worn) cardboard box. Box VG. This set of glasses was made available by the Hickok Belt Company. The theme of the glass set of sports stars and championship teams was a compliment to the companies yearly issue of the S. Rae Hickok belt. The belt was awarded to the top professional athlete of the year. It was awarded in honor of the founder of the Hickok Mfg. Co. of Rochester N. Y. which made belts, hence the choice of a belt as a trophy. These tropies/belts were made of alligator skin and a solid gold buckle with an encrusted 4 carat diamond and 26 gem chips valued at over $10,000 in the currency of the time. The trophy/belt was first awarded in 1950 and continued through 1976. Each glass represents a different sport with a gold luster image of the sport and gold frame around white text. Glasses include: "National Basketball Champions 1940-1953" (lt. wear to image), "National Football Champions 1936-1952", "US Champions Mens Singles 1935-1953" (tennis), "Kentucky Derby 1936-1953", "US Open Golf Champions 1933-1953", "World Series 1926-1953" "Heavyweight Champions 1889-1952", and "All-Time Greats" in 10 catagories. Listed as All-Time Greats are: "Jim Thorpe" (for both athlete and football), "Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, George Mikan, Jessie Owens, Bobby Jones, Bill Tilden, Johnny Weismuller, Man-O-War". Other than slight gold loss to basketball image, set is complete and Exc./N. Mint.
