See previous item #1067 for history of this team. Nicely posed team photo with text at bottom “1891 Harrisburg Giants 1908.” By Moss Photo. Team is posed in uniforms with baseballs/gloves. Team manager is posed in front of his namesake billiard hall “C.W. Strothers.” Lower center portion of photo has lighter browntone image than upper and sides. Not offensive. Blends well. Card is postally used and mailed from Harrisburg, PA 1909. Mailed to manager Baseball C (club)/Richland, PA. Printed text on back left reads “The Harrisburg Giants/Champion Colored Team Of The State Will Be In The Field Again This Season With The Best Team We Ever Had. This Is Our Fifth Season. We Are Easily Reached And Will Play At Reasonable Terms. We Are The Only Colored Team In The Central Part Of The State And You Can Book Us At Once By Writing To C. W. Strothers, Mgr.” followed by Harrisburg address. Trace of aging to back. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
