Item Description
4x6.25”. c. 1930s. Interesting concept and design. Mechanical tradecard is made with folded-over cardboard with staple at bottom. 4” dia. cardboard wheel is attached to inside with small grommet. As wheel protruding from side of card is turned, Santas arm w/hand holding chalk first appears as "Merry X'mas To All" text is revealed as if he is writing it. Continued turning of the wheel reveals a second Santa arm w/hand holding wiping cloth which now appears to erase the text. Neat action. Repeated on front and back is stamped text “Boston Store/David Harley Co.” Santa image stands beside full sack of toys. Printed by Walbro/N.Y.C./Made in USA. Back of card with text “A World Of Toys For Girls And Boys!/Meet Santa Claus At Boston Stores Toyland.” Illustration of numerous toys including Orphan Annie and Sandy figures, doll babies with carrying cases, toy furniture, trains, microscope set, etc. Light surface dust/wear on both sides. Red printing remains strong. Overall Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
