Item Description
7.25x10.5”. 46 pages. Great personal photo scrapbook of 609th Port Co. Division. Black unit from WWII. These post-war photos include views of camp, comrades in unit, soldiers at work and views of truck dock. Interesting views of Japanese civilians behind barbed wire. For the most part, negro units in Pacific landing forces were quartermaster, port and engineer types, attached to divisions, engineer special brigades, construction groups or boat and shore battalions. The 609th was one of these port companies. They remained in the Pacific after the war and were stationed in Yokihama, Japan during the post-war months. The company saw battle action but this scrapbook is post-war of their Yokihama location. Album front cover separated but here. Missing back cover. Cover Good. Photos/pages show lt. wear. VF to Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
