7-7/8x9-7/8” vintage publicity photo shows Evans and Hayes as Malvolio and Viola in Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.” VanDamm Studio photographers stamp on reverse with typed text painted on. Evans, an English actor noted for his takes on Shakespearian characters played Malvolio in the 1940 stage production, later going on to portray Dr. Zaius in the 1968 sci-fi classic “Planet of the Apes.” Hayes, noted as “The First Lady Of The American Theatre” is one of only 12 people to have won an Oscar, Tony, Emmy and Grammy award. Both have signed in black ink, Evans adding “Good Luck.” Hayes has inscribed “To Jack Wildberg Best Wishes Helen Hayes.” Lt. corner tip wear with margin wear at bottom but if framed would display Exc. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
