Item Description
Two similar rockets were produced by Horikawa, Japan in the 1960s. While the body design is the same, detailing is totally different (the other version of this rocket is pictured on page 115 of Vintage Toys Robots And Space Toys published by Krouse. This rocket is 3.5x3.5x12" long and comes in box w/nicely illustrated lid. Box has scattered trace of edge wear, lt. creases but remains tight and glossy. Fine. While this rocket is friction powered, the other variety is battery operated. This is marked "XB-115" w/generic space insignia whereas the battery version is marked "Apollo-1000/United States" w/American flag. Other detailing on this friction version is quite different from the battery toy. Has working friction mechanism which causes the nose cone to rotate and also produces a spark visible through plastic cover on top. Has scattered pinpoint paint nicks but as produced. Exc.
