Item Description
These buttons date from May, 1981 and 2 have the date in removable ink on the reverse. Hoffman was a fugitive of a 1973 drug arrest. He surrendered in 1980 and was sentenced to one year in prison. The “Free Abbie” slogan recalls his 1971 statement of hippie zeitgeist explained in his 1971 published title “Steal This Book.” The 1.25” button has various prices crossed out with the word “FREE” dominant. Second button reads “Free Abbie! No More Political Prisoners.” Large 2-5/16” button reads “Free Abbie Hoffman/Write To Gov. Carey.” Of the 3, this button is particularly rare. All are Exc. and display Mint.
