Item Description
This button dates from the mid-1950s. The litterbug is a registered trademark of the Pennsylvania Resources Council. In the mid-1950s they authorized the National Council Of State Garden Clubs to use the image for a “Don’t Be A Litterbug” campaign. The bug is depicted with eye patch and cigarette in mouth. He is spewing an array of garbage including banana peel, match pack, bottle, cup and can. Curl has name of maker Phila. Badge Co. Tiny bit of general surface wear in reflected light but button displays Mint. An historic button in the movement for environmental awareness. Only example we’ve seen. Rare.
