Auction #200 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1186 in auction 200
Item Description
1.75” dia. and nearly .5” thick although the celluloid side edge that should be covering the cloth tape measure is totally gone. Front and back celluloids remain attached to the interior metal mechanism and under most circumstances do stay firmly attached. On one side the real photo without dot pattern is stronger and clearer than on the opposite side but both sides are totally stain free. In addition to the quoted text, each side also says “Compliments Of Edes & Co.” Pictured are 14 ball players in “Newport” uniform plus a young bat boy. We believe this was a New England league operating in Rhode island and Massachusetts. Apparently the league did not sign the “National Agreement” placing minor leagues under major league control so the league was not considered “Official” but many major league clubs did send injured or slumping players to this league and recalled them as needed. Although incomplete, still displays Mint. From the Richard Merkin Collection. Comes with Hake’s COA.
