6x9” professionally bound hardcover with title in gold lettering on spine “Playbills 1942 And 1943.” Contains a total of 13 issues of “The Playgoer” for Court Square Theater and 15 programs for “Holyoke Theater” both located in MA. The Playgoer is on glossy paper typically 16 pages with detailed information on plays, stars, ads for upcoming plays, etc. The programs are typically 4 pages of basically just text for that production. Throughout the various issues, original ticket stubs have been attached inside back covers. Spread out over the contents are a total of 41 signatures obtained in person at these plays. The highlight is Boris Karloff who has signed in blue ink the front cover of one issue which features his photograph. That issue promotes Arsenic And Old Lace in which he starred as Jonathan Brewster. Included with that issue is a special promotional fold-out insert. A later issue for the same production features a second Karloff signature in pencil on the page listing the cast. Several issues feature photo ads for Karloff in this production. Other highlights include photo page signed by Gloria Swanson, photo page signed by Helen Twelvetrees, front cover photo signed by Ethel Barrymore, cast text page signed by Ed Wynn. Other signatures include - Staats Cotsworth, Sally O'Neil, Marjorie Peterseonm, Julie Haydon, C. Aubrey Smith, Michael Rosenberg, Jayne Cotter, Francis Lederer, Viginia Gilmore, Louise Kirtland, Kathryn Cameron, Coburn Goodwin, Ruth Amos, Phyllis Thaxter (signed twice), Donald Cook (signed twice), Audrey Ridgewell, Elenor Niles, Ed Wynn, Bert Kalmar Jr., Dorthy Hinkley, Helen Stenborg, Otto Hulett, Eulabell Moore, Josephine McKim, Myrtle Tannahill as well as 7 other names that we cannot make out. All contents have lt. aging. Cover shows trace of wear and aging. Overall Fine/VF. An extensive collection of autographs highlighted by the 2 signatures of Karloff. Comes with Hake's COA.
