Item Description
9” tall celluloid toy comes in box with paper label on the lid. 1930s by Masudaya, Japan. Box has obvious wear including creases and small punctures, center of lid has crease with tear to right end panel. Label has noticeable insect damage but 80% remains. Box Good. Toy depicts well-dressed man with insect attached to top of head by a spring. As made, mounted to a wood base. Works and head nods side-to-side and as his facial features change, different eyes and mouth depictions are visible behind die-cut openings. Insect also flutters about rapidly. Insect has just tiny traces of celluloid wings remaining but insect body itself firmly intact. Thin separation visible to seam on side of head joining the 2 halves, but all remains firmly intact. Head seam does have a few tiny hairlines, dent on nose tip. Fine.
