Item Description
c. 1885. 4.25x6.5” with photo of President Cleveland at upper left and larger photo near bottom of “Un-cut 75 Carets” diamond near bottom. Reverse side has diamond merchant name S. Dessau and NYC address. Card has st. curl with lt. bends at upper right and lower left corners, image area is a bit faded, lt. dust soil and aging. Fine. Comes with print-out of interesting and convoluted story of how diamond arrived in New York, how it was one of the earliest large diamonds to be cut in New York City, how it came to be named after President Cleveland and details of its mysterious disappearance in 1892.
