Item Description
This is an all-original cast iron mechanical bank reading “Tammany Bank” on each side of the chair. Lettering on reverse upper edge of chair says “PATD Dec. 23 1878” although a few letters or numbers are hard to read due to scattered paint chips. This bank was made by the J. & E. Toy Company of Cromwell, Ct. This example is very unusual because of a tan-colored paint on the face and hands rather than the usual flesh color. The color difference between the usual flesh-colored Tammany face and hands paint and the face and hands paint on this bank is quite dramatic. This Tammany has the look of a person who had achieved an even tan color after having been out on the beach for a number of days. Quite unusual and a rarity for even advanced bank collectors. The pants are a pleasing rich brown color. The edges of the chair are orange. Typical small paint chips and small areas of paint wear. The bank is entirely original in all respects including the unusual tan paint on the face and hands. There are no cracks, no chips, no repairs and no replaced components. In addition to our careful examination, with a high powered glass, we have black-lighted the bank for added verification of its all original paint. The bank is in Exc. condition and complete with the original coin trap on the underside. A rare variety.
