Item Description
4.25x6.” cabinet photo copyright 1893 by suffrage advocate Henrietta Briggs-Wall. Four paragraphs of text on back include “This Picture Is Designed To Represent Women And Her Legal Peers.” In the center is a life-size picture of Miss Frances E. Willard, the president of the Worlds Womens Christian Temperance Union. Above and to the left is a likeness of an idiot; above to the right is represented a convict in his prison garb; below to the left is an American Indian and below to the right is an insane man. Text also includes “No One Can Fail To Be Impressed With The Absurdity Of A Statutory Regulation That Places Women In The Same Legal Category With The Idiot, The Indian And The Insane Person.” Notation at bottom includes “Original Painting By W.A. Ford, Hutchinson, Kansas.” Card has lt. age toning on edges, one sliver off bottom right corner. Photo image area is clean, clear and glossy. Wonderful item of prohibition, temperance and women’s suffrage issues.
