Item Description
This piece stands 4” tall and a link below the fabric holds a 1-5/8” dia. bronzed white metal medallion. The hanger bar reads “Inauguration March 4. 1893.” The fabric ribbon shows some color bleed but is very sound structurally. The suspended medallion has jugate portraits beneath their full names. Reverse shows the U.S. Capitol with surrounding text “Committee On Inaugural Ceremonies March 4, 1893.” Bronze luster on the reverse has a number of exceedingly tiny oxidation dots but detracting little and not very apparent. This piece is listed in the Joseph Levine book on “Inaugural Medals” as GC1893-2. While the exact number is unknown, Levine supports another cataloguers estimate of “Several Hundred” made. The medal was also issued in a silvered version but only 21 of those were made and those have a fabric backing ribbon with the word “Executive” printed at the bottom. Fine and Rare.
