Item Description
This item is a mate to McKinley #260. Also, while it is catalogued as Hake #347, on that example the Bryan image is facing left whereas on this he is facing right. The silvered brass die-cut flag panels are 1.25” tall accented by a hand holding the flag staff. The piece opens to 1-11/16” by releasing a small tab along the right edge. The front piece springs open to reveal real paper photos of Bryan and Sewall. On the interior, about 70% of the silver flashing has evaporated but nice silver highlights remain. This is typical as the silvering was applied so thinly. The flag front is missing just a tiny 1/8” spot of red from one stripe and 2 even tinier dots from 2 other red stripes. As these come, this is a superior example as the paint did not hold well to the brass backing and is very prone to flaking. The photos on this example are exceedingly clean and crisp. We estimate the Bryan version is at least 4 times scarcer than the McKinley version.
