Auction #201 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1408 in auction 201
Item Description
1.75” stickpin soldered on reverse holds brass plated white metal die-cut design of “Roosevelt” oval portrait mounted above pair of crossed swords in their scabbards with small ribbon-like design as if suspended from a pair of lower rings with inscription “1904.” The area of the swords and portrait covers 1.75” by 2.75” wide. On the lower edges of the scabbards, the 4 fixed rings are molded as part of the design. Two of these are complete circles at the top of the dated ribbon. The other 2 at the far left and far right are about 90% complete but there is a tiny opening at the bottom of each and because the metal ends which are exposed are not covered in brass plating, we can only assume for some reason each gap represents a tiny missing fragment each 1/16” or even shorter. These 2 tiny missing pieces are barely noticeable in relation to the outstanding presence of the entire item. A wonderful and rare dated 1904 item but harkening back to his Spanish American War service. Only example we know of.
