Auction #201 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1408 in auction 201
Item Description
3.5” button unlisted in Hake. This button with serial number “114” was issued for Ike’s 1957 inauguration. There is a tiny bit of yellow tone over the rectangle bearing the date. This is because there was a paper sticker of the same identical size with boldly stenciled date “1961” pasted over in this area so that the button was also apparently used 4 years later for the inauguration of John F. Kennedy. We would doubt that this 1961 version would have been an official issue, it seems more likely that the original owner of this 1957 button attempted to create a 1961 version to gain access to the inaugural ceremonies. The 1961 paper is in a plastic bag taped to the reverse of the button. Other than the slight tone on the date, the piece is essentially Mint. Scarce and unusual.
