Item Description
7/8" c.1930 with backpaper by W&H. Reads "Belmonte./? Mas Cerquita Lo Quereis?" which we very roughly translate as "Belmonte/How Close Can It Be?" His career began as a child in 1908 and he killed his first bull in 1910. He revolutionized the technique, standing erect and nearly motionless always within inches of the bull, forcing the bull to go around him instead of jumping around like a circus performer. He appears prominently in two Hemingway novels: Death In The Afternoon and The Sun Also Rises. When, due to lifelong injuries, his doctor told him to abandon cigars, horses, and women he decided he was ready to die and committed suicide by firearm, as later did Hemingway. Only second one we've seen. Mint.
