Item Description
Two items c. 1950s. First is 11.25x20.75” wood frame with 9-3/8x19” opening revealing printed silk fabric dated May, 1957 with nice graphics and text promoting bullfight at “Fiestas de San Isidro.” Fourteen bullfighters are shown on sides. San Isidro is the patron saint of Madrid and in the world of bullfighting, San Isidro marks the start of the capitol’s season and is the world’s largest event which attracts all the top bullfighters and bull breeders. Noted bullfighters include Julio Aparicio, Antonia Vasquez and Rafael Ortega. Nice illustration at top shows bullfighters entering the ring and illustration at bottom shows them in bull ring. Exc. as professionally framed. Second item is 15.5x15.5” hanky with nice graphics of crowd being chased by bulls. Hanky has lt. rippling but would iron out. Bright color and Exc. The Pamplona Encierro is the most popular running of the bulls in Spain and is the highest profile event of the “San Furman” festival which is held every year from Jul. 7-14. The first bull running is on July 7th as is noted on top of hanky “7 de Julio." Neat pair. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
