Associated Press news photo. 7.25x9” glossy has attached paper dated “10.3.49” noting pitching staff lineup at Yankee Stadium for Oct. 3rd opening game of the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Photo includes Bob Porterfield, Tommy Byrne, Clarence Marshall, Ralph Buxton, Fred Sanford, Vic Raschi, Allie Reynolds, Ed Lopat, Joe Page and Duane Pillette. The Yankees won the series in 5 games which would start a record run of 5 consecutive World Series championships for the Bronx Bombers. It was also the first World Series game finished under artificial lights when Ebbets Field turned the lights on in the 9th inning of game 5. Winning pitchers included Allie Reynolds, Joe Page, Ed Lopat and Vic Raschi. Joe DiMaggio hit a home run in game 5. Caption paper has pulled loose from back of photo. Just Good, but complete. Photo has a few lt. handling creases mostly just visible in reflected light. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
