14x22.25” cardboard for game held Friday, August 25th 1950 at Davenport Municipal Stadium. Text includes “I’m Going To The Ball Game! Negro American League Game” with seat prices of – General $1.00; Box Seats $1.25; Children 25¢. Night game 8:00 PM Davenport, IA. Bottom of broadside has 3-7/8x12.25” photo showing 18 Monarchs players in full uniform along with young bat boy. Bottom has Kansas City, Kansas headquarters address. Baker Printing Co. The Kansas City Monarchs were charter members of the Negro National League in 1920 and the longest running franchise in Negro League history. They won their first World Series title in 1924. The Black Barons became a charter franchise of the Negro South League in 1920 and at various times was associated with the Negro National League and Negro American League. The team’s heyday came in 1940 with such stars as Piper Davis, Lester Lockett, Artie Wilson and Ed Steele. They captured the league title in 1944. Scattered lt. dust soil, a few small dents around margin edges and corner tips, bottom has narrow 4.25” long diagonal moisture mark extending into team photo. Bottom right corner has .25x2” moisture mark at blank margin edge. Fine. Scarce. Wonderful item for display. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake’s COA.
